TULIP – Tenant User Liability Insurance

The TULIP is a Tenants’ and Users’ Liability Insurance Policy that provides special event liability coverage. It is used by institutions that permit “third parties” to use their facilities for specific events. It is designed for third party users who do not carry liability insurance and is offered at a low cost. It is event-specific and can also cover vendors, performers and exhibitors, if needed. It protects both the institution user (the third party) and NC State against claims by third parties who may be injured or experience damage to property as a result of participating in an event.

Events may range from low risk events such as classroom seminars, receptions, or weddings to high-risk events including festivals and fairs, sports events, or concerts. The policy has exclusions for certain high-risk activities. Facility users may need to obtain coverage from another insurer if their event does not qualify for the TULIP program.

TULIP can only be purchased when the event takes place in an NC State-owned facility or property. It does not extend to other properties.

How does it work?

The process is simple! Third party users should click on the Quick Quote Tab on the Tulip website. Select the state from the dropdown list, then select North Carolina State University and the specific venue. Follow the steps to complete the process and obtain your quote.

The link will guide you through the process to purchase coverage via credit card. Upon completion of the transaction, you and NC State will receive a certificate/binder of coverage via email.

For all events, NC State will be named as Additional Insured.

Does TULIP cover Events not on Property Owned by NC State?

The TULIP does not extend to locations not owned by NC State. You can check with the municipality or other property owners for a separate TULIP program or you will need to investigate a stand-alone special events policy that can encompass multiple locations and insureds.

How long does it take to get insurance?

Once you have completed your transaction on the website you will receive a certificate of coverage by email. The email usually arrives within five minutes of your purchase. NC State will also receive a copy of the certificate.
